2009 Hummer H2 SUV

Based on GM’s line of full-size SUVs, the H2 is so massive that GM doesn’t have to submit it for EPA fuel-economy testing—it’s technically a medium-duty truck. Used to climb mountains, the H2 will impress, but if your only climbing is social, it’ll be an expensive ascent.

2008 Honda S2000

Honda's hyper-revving sportster is the closest thing to a four-wheeled motorcycle. It's a blast on the street and fabulous at the track, especially the new CR edition (for "Club Racer") with a stiffer suspension. More livable after a 2004 engine upsizing, the S2000 remains one of a kind.

2008 Honda Ridgeline

A face only a mother could love adorns a pickup only a pansy would buy. Or so goes conventional thinking. In fact, the Ridgeline is tough, practical, and a capable off-roader. It tows 5000 pounds with aplomb, and drives better than any pickup we know. Unfortunately, it's still ugly.

2008 Honda Pilot

We've given the Honda Pilot 5Best Truck wins for five years straight for reasons aplenty. The Pilot is a spacious carry-all with carlike handling and brilliant interior packaging at an affordable price. Six years on the market and the Pilot still hasn't been topped.

2008 Honda Element

Over its model run, Honda has retooled its Maytag-square Element to be more hip, with a lower ride height, bigger wheels, and body-color bumpers. It offers excellent cargo versatility, although its back seats are less than comfortable. A quirky car in search of quirky customers.

2009 Honda Civic hybrid

Refreshed for 2009 with new lights and bumpers, the Civic Hybrid remains one of the best ways to get 40 mpg. A range of trim levels offers everything from bare bones to leather and navigation. The efficient powertrain is nearly transparent and, for a green car, it actually likes curves.

2009 Honda Accord sedan

Growing longer and wider with its 2008 redesign, the ever-popular Accord hits ’09 unchanged except for revised V-6 power figures. Available with auto or manual transmissions and a long list of packages and trims, the fine-handling Accord continues as our favorite big mid-sizer.
